NW Guilford -- Two recently graduated Northwest Guilford High School students placed eighth in the Entrepreneurship category at the Future Business Leaders of America national conference held in Anaheim, Calif. on June 26 to July 1.
Northwest's FBLA Club President Jake Boersema and Secretary Hannah Strickland traveled to the conference to participate in a two-part competition.
Keesha Sinclair, Northwest's Business Law and Entrepreneurship 1 teacher, said students participate in a 100-question test. If their scores place them in the top 15, they participate in a role play where they are given a prompt and have 20 minutes to prepare a presentation for judges.
An example prompt might involve opening a franchise, in which students would be asked to provide advantages and disadvantages of opening the franchise along with a decision as to whether they would open it.
Sinclair said Boersema has plans to move to Washington, D.C. to pursue leadership and hopes to one day enter the ministry. Strickland will attend UNC-Greensboro this fall.
