Members of the Guilford County Board of Education asked citizens for input regarding an airport-area school campus on Nov. 5.
The community input session, at Page High School, was held to discuss options for $72 million in funds included in the 2008 bond referendum to construct a new high school and middle school in the area around Piedmont Triad International Airport. The proposed school would help with overcrowding at Northwest Guilford, Western Guilford and Southwest Guilford high schools.
However, with attendance figures stabilizing in recent years at each of the schools, and projections to 2021-2022 indicating that stabilization should continue, school officials wondered if the funds might better be used to handle a number of pressing maintenance and improvement needs throughout the county's schools.
Another meeting, to discuss the future of airport-area schools, will be held Nov. 28 at Southwest Guilford High School.
For discussion from the meeting, see the Nov. 16-22 Northwest Observer.
